Welcome to St Alkmunds Church in Shrewsbury - 1100 years old!
At the heart of the historic and beautiful town of Shrewsbury, founded about the year 900, stands the church of St Alkmund which celebrated its 1100th anniversary in 2012. There's a lot going for this town centre church, not least its reputation for the friendliness of the welcome given to its many visitors.
In this website we describe some of the work being done at this town centre church, the times of its weekly Services and something about its history and architectural interest.
We hope that you may feel inspired to pay us a visit, or, if you live in Shropshire, to take part in some of the courses and activities on offer through the year.
It gives us great to pleasure to announce that as from Wednesday 8th July 2020 St. Alkmund’s will be opening its doors to visitors, for private prayer or quiet contemplation, every Wednesday and every Friday from 11a.m. until 2 p.m.
We have taken every precaution possible to make the church a safe place to enter during this time.
We would ask all those entering the church to do so by the main (West) door and to leave by the Northeast door.
There will be signs inside the church directing you.
We would also ask you to use the hand sanitiser on the table by the West door and to maintain social distancing of one meter. If you could also bring your own face coverings that would be helpful.
In line with government guidelines we would also ask you to register with the volunteer at the door giving them your name and contact details – mobile phone number, landline number or email address.
Finally we do hope you enjoy your visit to this lovely peaceful building in the centre of Shrewsbury
